KYLE TAYLOR
ASSISTANT COACH
GET TO KNOW
Kyle played libero at Stanford from 2011 - 2014 where she learned so much about the game of volleyball and more specifically, about the libero position and the skills that make liberos great. While there, she had the opportunity to play with and against some of the greatest volleyball players in the country. She made it to the Final Four her senior year and finished the year 33-2. Kyle's senior year ended the season with all of the starters gaining All-American recognition. Kyle grew up playing soccer and softball, but in the 4th grade her dad introduced her to volleyball and that was it. She fell in love. She started playing indoor on a 12s team and played beach volleyball recreationally at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas every summer until she graduated high school. She ended up playing at WAVE for the majority of her club career and loved every second of it. In the 9th grade, she made her transition from being an outside hitter to a libero because of an ankle injury, and ultimately her height was better suited for the libero position. Kyle loves breaking down passing and defense because these are the skills that she focused on in college and grew immensely. Kyle has coaching experience coaching camps at Stanford and is entering her 2nd season with Encore.
Some of Kyle's favorite games were (1) sweeping Nebraska on their home court (2) beating Florida to get to the Final Four (3) the Regional Final in 2013 against Penn State - definitely the most high level match she's ever been a part of. 12/14 players were All Americans.
Most of Kyle's favorite memories took place off the court and in the locker room. She shared that one of her favorite memories was at practice. Inky Ajanaku was the culprit. John had just described a drill to us where the Middles were NOT supposed to block the hitters but to do their normal footwork. Inky wasn’t listening as intently as she probably should have. So the first ball was fed onto the court and the hitter went up to hit, Inky went up to block, and while Inky was mid-air she remembered she wasn’t supposed to be blocking so she dropped her hands. Inky is tall and can jump high, so her head was completely over the net. The ball hit Inky’s head on her way down and the ball literally hit the ceiling. A good 30ft in the air. We took 10 minutes to get all of the laughs out.
